Our Thoughts
A Tale Of Two Kingdoms was your typical Romeo and Juliet tale with a twist. We loved the tenacity of Duff and Song in their journey to be together. For the families to get on the same page and find a way to support them was wonderful to see. A few obstacles were hurddled and a few road blocks were removed.  Here you find the happily ever after that Black Swan fans have been waiting for. This sweet novella ranks a solid 4,5 in my books.

AUTHOR BIO:

If you’re looking for something new and different in PNR, you’ve come to the right place.

I write unapologetic romances with uniquely fresh perspectives on paranormal creatures, characters, and themes. Add a dash of scifi and a flourish of fantasy to enough humor to make you laugh out loud and enough steam to make you squirm in your chair. My heroines are independent femmes with flaws and minds of their own whether they are aliens, witches, demonologists, psychics, or past life therapists. My heroes are hot and hunky, but they also have brains, character, and good manners – usually – whether they be elves, demons, berserkers, werewolves, or vampires.

I have authored and illustrated Seasons of the Witch calendars and planners for fifteen years and teach magickal arts for Seasons in Avalon. I live in The Woodlands, Texas which is why I sometimes joke about being the witch in the woods.

The State of Indie Publishing by Victoria Danann

image

Last month I was the featured author at the first ever Indie Romance Convention where I was privileged to give the keynote speech on opening night and moderate a panel discussion for authors on Indie marketing.
The Indie Rom con is   a convention with separate events (workshops, panels) for authors and readers. I didn’t attend any of the reader events because the con organizer had me busy working with other authors. During those exchanges I was able to discern a lot about the current state of affairs.
First, as I’m sure you’re aware, Independent Publishing includes a variety of approaches to book distribution such as self-publishing, small press, and independent imprint digital. I don’t usually cite my own case because it’s unique. When I began publishing my works of fiction, I did so under 7th House Publishing, which is a small press and was owned by me at the time. For about fifteen years its focus had been strictly calendars, planners, New Age niche books, and sidelines.
As a person who began as owner/operator of a small publishing company, I was fortunate to have many of the skills necessary to running an Indie fiction business before I began writing the fiction I would sell. For the vast majority of Indie authors, that equation is the other way around.
In other words I was familiar with marketing principles, time management, and had acquired useful tech skills so that I can manage my own website, do my own graphics (including covers), and format my books for publication in various e-versions.
Not every Indie author has or is going to want to acquire that specific skill set, but that’s okay. There are people who can be hired to perform those tasks. What every Indie author does need to understand is that an independent writing career is not only a business, it’s an entrepreneurial business. It’s a leap for risk takers and scramblers.
If the voice in your head says, “But I just want to write,” Indie publishing is not for you. Sadly, there may not be any place for you because, while traditional publishing may survive in some form, the days of authors contributing nothing more than manuscripts are over. Even big names are now expected to spend time on social media and engage readers, contribute earnings to various promotions, and participate in marketing activities where their predecessors were simply left alone.
For a time traditional publishing tried to deny that the gate was open for good. For four hundred years nothing much changed in the world of publishing, but the Kindle created a revolution that upended the stranglehold the New York gatekeepers had over which things did or did not get published. Don’t get me wrong. I understand investing. The people who are putting up the money get to say how it’s used, where, when, and why. I have no problem with that. It’s only right.
On the other hand, there’s something truly noble about having a global forum that allows anyone with something to say to put it out there and let the reading public – rather than book investors – decide what they want to read.
As to the fate of traditional publishing, let me paraphrase Mark Coker of Smashwords. “They’re like the Titanic. They know they’re going to sink, but they’re too big to turn. All they can do is brace and wait for impact. “

Meanwhile, a lot of authors like myself are benefitting from a readership with whom contact would have been possible. My books would never have been published – too different, too much of a risk. So I owe Amazon a lot. If they dropped the props that are holding traditional publishing up, so that we were on a level playing field with those authors, I would owe them even more. (Are you listening, Amazon? We, Indies, are your future.)

Next year the Indie Rom Con will be held in Nashville next year, September 11-14 with outstanding small events for both authors and readers.  http://indieromancecon.com/

Two centuries ago, I clawed my way into a world of immorality, filth and destruction. A world seething with secrets and lies, both mortal and immortal.

Complete and utter Darkness.

I know we’re supposed to be inherently evil, but something inside me refuses to fully believe our legends. Something that calls out for more…calls out for her.

I am Nikolai Skotos, son of Stavros and Delia, and brother of Dorian, the heir of the Dark throne. I am one of the most powerful Dark forces to have ever walked this earth.

And I once was lost.
Now, I’m about to give it all up for the girl that found me.

EXCERPT:

I stand at the foot of the bed, gazing down at the naked bodies twisted in rumpled satin sheets. Pale moonlight kisses their skin, making them appear ethereal, ghostlike even.

So beautiful. So soft. So weak.

I lean forward, propping a knee onto the mattress, and position myself between their sleeping forms. My fingers graze their soft skin, leaving a trail of goose bumps in their wake. I inhale their combined scents, picking up traces of alcohol, sweat and sex. And something else. Something more. It invades my lungs and bursts in my chest, sprouting tingling warmth in my extremities.

Magic.

Just a drop between the two, but it will do. These days, it’s harder and harder to find more than that. In a willing donor, that is.

I lay down facing the brunette, my hands exploring the soft contours of her body. I brush her cheek with the back of my hand. She was stunning once- I can tell. But her indulgences have aged her. Her vices, her weaknesses, have not been kind to her. She’ll die before her time, I’m certain of it.

“Wake,” I whisper. Instantly, her eyes open, and once her pupils adjust to the dark, she smiles.

“Hey,” she says, caressing my bare chest.

I give her a slight smile and cup her face between my hands. “Look at me.”

She complies instantly, looking back at me with trusting, brown eyes. Eyes that will forget that they ever saw my face. They dilate within seconds and her body relaxes against mine. She’s completely open to me- her thoughts, her actions…all mine. But most of all, her magic. The tiny trace concealed in her bloodline flows freely into my body as I inhale the base of her neck. I moan and let my teeth graze her throat.

Fuck, it feels good. It always does, transcending any measure of human pleasure. Breathing is beyond feeling. Beyond physical sensation. It’s complete and utter euphoria, exploding in every synapse. It’s feeding your soul and making love to your spirit. It’s life itself.

Existence Trilogy by Abbi Glines

image

Existence
Pagan is an ordinary girl on the outside but what no one knows is that she can see the souls of dead people. On the 1st day of her senior year she sees a soul of the most gorgeous guy sitting on the picnic table outside the school. She has found out from past experience that if she ignores them they won’t follow her. So she walks past him and goes to meet her best friend Miranda to see what classes she has. Miranda is drooling over Leif Montgomery who is the high school quarterback. As Pagan goes to her first class early she realizes that she should have waited since she is alone and that is usually when she sees the souls. Of course there sets the soul who starts talking to her which freaks her out because the entire time she has seen the souls they have never spoken.

As the day goes on she thinks about this strange occurrence. At lunch Lief whom she considers an arrogant jock comes and asks her to tutor him in speech. Pagan showing her dislike questions how he knows he needs help already causing home to walk away dejected. When Pagan gets home her mom confronts her telling her about Leif’s learning disability makes her feel like a jerk. She agrees to tutor him. Then her soul comes back and pretty much stalks her telling her what he thinks.

As time goes by Pagan’s feelings for Leif start to change, she begins to like him. One day he upsets her & she over reacts by leaving the school. The soul tells her she needs to stay he begs but she still leaves. As when upset people are driving she wasn’t paying attention & got in a car wreck, almost killing her. The soul keeps her company while she is out of school, he plays her a lullaby and she thinks about him a lot. When she gets back to school she is dating Leif & Miranda is about to jump out of her skin with excitement because Dank Walker, a rock star, is enrolled in her school. Who also happens to be the soul following her around.

As things progress and twist and turn I couldn’t put the book down. Trying to figure out exactly who Dank is, what is wrong with Pagan. Then when you think you know it all Dank drops a bomb of a cliff hanger on the last line of the book!!!

I give this book 5+ stars!!!!

Predestined
Warning if you haven’t read Existence then you might not want to read this review!

Pagan is a selfless giving person and that could get her into some issues. Dank has come back to her, when she gave the ultimate sacrifice to live in pain without him so he wouldn’t be tortured.

So now Pagan has a new boyfriend, a new friend & a missing ex boyfriend who isn’t quite human. As it turns out Pagan has a protector against dying early but now he has to fight the death voodoo king for her soul.

I loved the way Abby keeps the story changing and gets you all wrapped up in the story. She makes it easy to feel what they are feeling in the book so much that you don’t want to put it down!

I give this book 5 stars.

Ceaseless
Pagan and Miranda are in college and meeting old friends and new well new to them now friends.
Wow if Pagan and Dank can’t get a break! So she survived her ordeals with the voodoo Prince but now the deity has decided she needs to be given the chance to chose between her soul mate and Dank. The only way to make the choice fair, the deity wipes Pagan’s memories and that of her friends and mom. So now Dank has to win her over without scaring her.

Again I couldn’t put this book down! Unfortunately this book several grammatical errors. So even though this is one of my favorites I’m giving this book 4.5 stars!

A Girl, A Guy, and A Ghost

image

As this book’s title says there is a girl, a guy and a ghost but also a few other characters. A French man who reminds you of Pepe Le Pew (you know the cartoon skunk who follows the black cat around), a Madam fortune teller, a supposed vampire & a wizard.

Giselle is a journalist for a ghosthunter magazine who has an assignment in Savannah the most haunted city. Her best friend decides to set her up on a blind date with Vector (Pepe) in the pretense of it being an interview about a ghost. When she realizes it is a date she leave only to have him follow. In the process of leaving she runs into the most gorgeous guy she has seen. Vector insists they are in a relationship so he leaves. Giselle irritated tells Vector off & decides to go on a ghost tour. On the tour with a drunk tour guide who makes up her stories she meets the man again only this time she dumps her & his drinks all over him. He gets mad & leaves.

The next day her friend meets her & apologizes over for setting her up with Vector. To make up for it she sends her to a private investigator’ s office which just happens to be th  gorgeous guy whom she keeps knocking over. Rylan is not happy yo see her and pretty much tells her to leave when she brings up looking for a ghost. So on a tight time table she goes to see Madam Divinity to see if she can find her a ghost to investigate. There she make a enemy when she gets upset about being told about her love life & accidentally breaks Madam’ s crystal ball in two.

She ends up going to a hotel/restaurant that is suppose to be haunted & runs into Ry while he is meeting with a client. She takes their picture & runs from him. She runs into a room thinking it is the bathroom but in fact is a very small closet with Ry pressed tight against her. Here things get steamy and when they get out he agrees to help her. Especially when he finds out about the death threats against her.

There are so many twists and turns in this book that it keeps you guessing. Giselle seems to draw trouble with every turn, with Ry to help figure it out.

Great book, I give it a 4.5 stars.

Just A Tease
So…close.

The stench of bourbon, cheap perfume and sex fill my nostrils, creating a heady cocktail of hedonism that takes me higher than I already am. Melodic sounds of live jazz resonate from Bourbon Street and meld with moans of raucous passion nearby. The eroticism of hearing someone else’s pleasure, imagining the slick feel of damp skin against skin, arouses me further, pushing me into oblivion. I let my head fall back and close my eyes, sucking in a breath through my teeth.

I’m close, but not close enough. Never close enough to feel…whole. Complete. Full.

I’m not kidding myself. I know I’ll never be satisfied. I’ll always want more. More wealth. More power. More women. And while I have more of each than any one man can stand, it’s not enough. It’s never enough. The hunger is real. Deep. Overwhelming. Consuming me from the inside out.

I lift my heavy head and slowly peel open my eyes, gazing down at a crown of blonde, wavy locks bobbing up and down in my lap. I force myself to abandon all thought and just focus on the waves of sensation coursing through my body. Prickly white heat crawls up my legs, and floods my veins before sinking into the heaviness between my thighs.

This…I can do. This…is easy.

Over and over again, my cock disappears into her wet mouth. Pink lips slide over the rigid, smooth skin, taking me deeper with every mouthful. The swollen tip hits the back of her throat and she doesn’t even flinch. No gag reflex. Shit. This one is good. I think I’ll keep her.

“Look at me, pretty girl,” I tell her, gently grabbing a handful of her sun-kissed hair. She complies with wide, eager eyes, but doesn’t stall her movements. “That’s right. Just like that. Take all of me. Deeper. I want to feel those sweet lips all over me.”

She does as she’s told with enthusiasm, desperate for my approval. She knows I’m somebody. Somebody important. Somebody that could potentially change her shitty existence. And I intend to. Just not the way she’s hoping.
